Ethics

In an environment in which intellectual property is everything, blogging seems slightly risky.  Some of the ideas I want to write about are yet to be published: others I have learned on the fringes of formal events and it’s pretty clear that the source never intended them for publication.  I want to credit the former, and protect the latter.  If you think I’ve got the balance wrong, please let me know at vicki@confoundingfactor.org.  E-mail sent to that address will be forwarded to my University of Southampton account (I have not posted my university address here in the hope of minimising spam).  If you think I’ve misrepresented you, please consider making a comment on the blog instead of asking me to remove the post.  Where there are two academics there are three opinions so I’d like this to be a conversation (or argument, if you will): that seems appropriate.

Edit: Due to the vast quantities of comment spam blogs seem to attract, the comments threads on my older blog posts have been closed.  In addition, comments containing links or certain key words may be held for moderation.  Apologies.
